(Relevant) On Twitter, pastor, author and theologian Tim Keller engaged in a debate with reformed podcaster Jon Harris about social justice and its place in the modern evangelical framework. It was a debate Keller won, and it not only provides a great look a theology of justice but also a gracious, humble style of engaging in disagreement over social media. Harris, per his other social media posts, is not a fan of movements like Black Lives Matter or social justice in general. Keller, on the other hand, recently published an essay at Life in the Gospel on a Christian view of social justice and how it is (and isn’t) distinguishable from other definitions.
Harris took issue with some of Keller’s thoughts on justice, accusing him of flirting with Marxism — a popular charge among some conservative groups for any Christian that starts to take social justice movements seriously.
