(The Morning Call) An Allentown church that was denied permission to operate a sober-living group home in West Park claims in a federal lawsuit that the denial violates the Americans with Disabilities Act and other anti-discrimination laws.
Allentown Victory Church applied in 2019 for permission to have up to 18 people recovering from drug or alcohol addiction living in a family setting in a 10-bedroom house in the 1400 block of Hamilton Street. The church operates a faith-based recovery program that requires participants to attend religious services, addiction group meetings, perform chores and search for work among other requirements. It opened the home in February 2019 with 11 residents but said it needed at least 15 to make the home financially viable.
