(CHRON.) The genre of “Christian rap” is corny to some and a contradiction to others.
To Houston native Lecrae, it’s only natural.
“I try to be authentic,” Lecrae says. “… I know my roots are in hip hop, but faith is the bedrock that I stand on, and it’d be difficult for faith to not bleed through my music.”
While religion as a whole may face a stigma when it comes to rap music, spirituality does exist within the genre — it’s just not usually within the mainstream.
